HOLISTIC MEDICINE
Definition
Holistic medicine is a term used to describe therapies that attempt to treat the patient as a whole person. That is, instead of treating an illness, as in orthodox allopathy, holistic medicine looks at an individual's overall physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing before recommending treatment. A practitioner with a holistic approach treats the symptoms of illness as well as looking for the underlying cause of the illness. Holistic medicine also attempts to prevent illness by placing a greater emphasis on optimizing health.
The body's systems are seen as interdependent parts of the person's whole being. Its natural state is one of health, and an illness or disease is an imbalance in the body's systems. Holistic therapies tend to emphasize proper nutrition and avoidance of substances—such as chemicals—that pollute the body. Their techniques are non-invasive.
Some of the world's health systems that are holistic in nature include naturopathic medicine, homeopathy, and traditional Chinese medicine. Many alternative or natural therapies have a holistic approach, although that is not always the case. The term complementary medicine is used to refer to the use of both allopathic and holistic treatments. It is more often used in Great Britain, but is
gaining acceptance in the United States.
There are no limits to the range of diseases and disorders that can be treated in a holistic way, as the
principle of holistic healing is to balance the body, mind, spirit, and emotions so that the person's whol
e being functions smoothly. When an individual seeks holistic treatment for a particular illness or condit
ion, other health problems improve without direct treatment, due to improvement in the performance of
the immune system, which is one of the goals of holistic medicine.

Origins

The concept of holistic medicine is not new. In the 4th century B.C., Socrates warned that treating one
part of the body only would not have good results. Hippocrates considered that many factors contribute to the health or otherwise of a human being, weather, nutrition, emotional factors, and in our time, a host of different sources of pollution can interfere with health.
And of course, holistic medicine existed even before ancient Greece in some ancient healing traditions, such as those from India and China, which date back over 5,000 years. However, the term "holistic" only became part of everyday language in the 1970s, when Westerners began seeking an alternative to allopathic medicine.
Interestingly, it was only at the beginning of the twentieth century that the principles of holistic medicine fell out of favor in Western societies, with the advent of major advances in what we now call allopathic medicine. Paradoxically, many discoveries of the twentieth century have only served to confirm many natural medicine theories. In many cases, researchers have set out to debunk holistic medicine, only to find that their research confirms it, as has been the case, for example, with many herbal remedies.

HOLISTIC HEALTH
"Holism is the theory that the parts of a whole do not exist and can only be understood in their relationship to the whole;
"Holism states that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts",
that parts of a whole are intimately connected so that they cannot exist or be understood independently of the whole.
The principles of holism have been around since Hippocrates 2500 years ago and even earlier than the Eastern healing traditions of Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HOLISTIC HEALTH

While people are living longer today they also are experiencing chronically high levels of stress and fatigue, are consuming nutrient-depleted foods, and are exposed to hundreds of potentially harmful chemically through our air, water, cleaning, and personal care products daily. So to say that holistic health is important would be an understatement. For many living with chronic disease and undiagnosable symptoms, the modern-day
healthcare industry has failed them, and it is time that a more holistic, whole-body solution became a standard part of the way we treat and support the health of the billions of people living on this planet.
Holistic health also takes into account the many external and environmental factors which could be supporting or impacting our overall health and wellness, and with climate change impacting our surrounding environments more and more each day, it is important that we have a systematic way of addressing health in the future.

THE 5 ASPECTS OF HOLISTIC HEALTH:
PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL, SPIRITUAL AND MENTAL

When it comes to holistic health we are looking beyond the physical body and are addressing
physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual health. All of these 5 aspects of holistic
health are what enables a person to truly live each day in the healthiest, happiest way possible
and if one area is compromised, most likely other areas will be as well.

HOLISTIC BEAUTY
Integrative – Holistic Beauty: Changing our definition of beauty

Beauty, we are told, is in the eye of the beholder. We continually seek approval and feel judged by how we look, regardless of what else we may accomplish. Ultimately, we must all come to terms with the fact that beauty is subjective. In an age of fillers and plastics, the pursuit of beauty is being forced into a one-dimensional mold of measurements, cup sizes and wrinkle depth.
The truth is that beauty cannot be measured. It is multidimensional. We are bombarded with images specially of women that were once truly beautiful, but now are caricatures of their former selves in their attempt to conform to current standards.
Integrative beauty attempts to redefine our definition and expectation of beauty. Beauty is actually wellness, vibrancy and vitality. It comes from within and may be that light, intellect or humor that then change how one perceives every other physical attribute.
It's time to embrace and take charge in turning our definition of beauty upside down – beauty is wellness, vibrancy and accomplishment.

Holistic Skin Care

Holistic skin care is an ancient practice that involves treating the skin in a "whole" way. It looks at the bigger picture to go beyond your external symptoms understand the root cause of skin imbalances, which means it's a whole lot more than just cleansers and moisturizers. Your skin is your largest organ, communicating with both internal and external forces daily, and it needs to maintain the correct balance to function optimally. Holistic skin-care s the act of carefully formulating products and engaging in lifestyle practices
that energetically support the mind, body, and spiritual connection to keep these systems in equilibrium.
